Wood & Co adds 8th stock exchange to its membership portfolio

Wood & Company aims to better serve its clients by offering access to a growing number of emerging European stock exchanges and is pleased that Bulgaria – an important Southeast European market – is now amongst them. Wood & Company’s other memberships include Prague, Budapest, Warsaw, Bucharest and Ljubljana, as well as the Wiener Börse and Deutsche Börse.

With a market capitalisation of $10 billion, and benefiting from its recent entrance into the EU, Bulgaria is a small but promising stock market in the Balkans. In dollar-terms, the main Sofia index jumped 78% over the last 12 months and already reflects positive investor expectations for the market.

"We are excited that we have managed to become a member of Stock Exchanges in the countries which become new EU members this year. It was very difficult to go through the process as we had to fulfill lots of regulatory requirements," says Andrea Ferancova, Wood & Company's Director of Equities and Partner. "Investors thus will have the possibility to buy Bulgarian shares directly via Wood & Company."

Wood & Company is the largest equity broker on the Czech market. Since its foundation in 1991, the firm has focused on securities trading and corporate advisory. Wood & Company executed trades worth $24 billion in 2006 and has a market share of over 7% in the region and 30% in Prague.

In Bulgaria, Wood & Company plans to offer a full range services, including stock trading, research coverage and corporate finance advisory.
